Santi Perez is very short. At school he’s known as “Pint-Size Perez.” Self-conscious and shy, poor Santi secretly measures himself each day to see if he has grown. But one day, he goes with his dad to a cafeteria and by chance meets his favorite soccer player. On that fateful day, after his idol signs not one but two autographs for him, Santi’s luck begins to change. He starts to overcome his insecurities thanks to what he thinks of as “medicines”: humor, bravery, the help of family members and friends, and above all, his good spirits, which allow him to ignore his classmates’ taunts about his physical shortcomings. All these things help “Pint-Size Perez” to “grow” inside and out. He learns to understand others, communicate unreservedly with those around him, share his feelings, and live happily. The main theme of this story is overcoming insecurities like the ones troubling the protagonist. Throughout the story, we witness how he overcomes his self-consciousness and begins to “grow” both inside and out by recuperating and building his self-esteem.
